The Restaurant Orphée is considered to be the most authentic French Bistro east of the river Rhine.
Since 1896 the interior of the restaurant with its vintage wainscotting and wood partitions has been preserved virtually untouched.
Red plush settees and marble tables await you in the front bistro area of the restaurant, wainscotting and formally laid-out tables with Thonet chairs in the rear restaurant area. The Orphée is a timeless „classic“, open every day for eighteen hours, serving many a function: breakfast in all sorts of variations, daily a modest yet exquisite menu for the noontime visitors, in the afternoons a relaxed Viennese-type coffeehouse, in the evenings plenty of buzz and bustle, after 10 p.m. the bar takes over. The cuisine of the Restaurant Orphée is Mediterranean yet without frills.
The menu includes French classics such as Coq au vin, Bouillabaisse and Boudin noir. Our offer of wines is extensive and apt to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Since we offer not only delicious cooking but also a charming and most convivial atmosphere, our restaurant has for a long time been a favorite for people hosting friends and family for birthday parties and other festive occasions.
The combination of excellent service, simple yet elegant cuisine and a unique old-world atmosphere makes the Restaurant Orphée such a very special place. Hence our modest proposal: simply come visit & see for yourself!
… is not exactly irrelevant in a French restaurant. The Orphée’s kitchen has always been a women’s kitchen. Already back in the early days, their talent and motherly instincts have graced our meals with a distinct touch of family-style Mediterranean. Over the last few years a talented crew of male chefs has added their skills. When the restaurant’s owners are being asked if they also dine in other restaurants they honestly reply like this: “Yes, but certainly not exclusively so. In fact we do like to dine right here in the Orphée – we enjoy the fare.”
By all means visit our Spanish sister. Younger, footloose and loud.
